And over the past few months, especially after quarantine, the number of fans who stan the band have increased in humongous folds. You may even have a friend who is crazy about this particular boy band and you may not really understand why. On the other side, people post hateful comments, memes, trolls about the band, without really knowing who they are. Now, who is BTS, what is so special about them? Read on to find out.

BTS is a seven member South Korean boy band who are based in Seoul, under Big Hit Entertainment. They were formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013, as yet another Kpop group and was ridiculed for their band name, which is Bangtan Sonyeondan (meaning Bulletproof Boy Scouts). The age of the boys when they debuted ranged in-between 15 to 20 years only. When they began they were nobody, so much hate was sent their way before the band was acknowledged. So, BTS’s members are no privileged superheroes. They are normal talented kids, who efficiently worked their way into owning millions of hearts around the globe.

Unlike western groups who don’t have assigned positions within the band, most kpop groups have selected leaders and other positions, categorized as vocalist, dancer, rapper, visual, etc,. And BTS is no exception, it consists of 3 rappers and 4 singers and you can expect a mix of both rap and vocals in most of their songs. Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook are part of the vocal line and Rm, Suga and Jhope are part of the rap line, with Rm being the leader of the band.

Kpop is a lovely genre of music to listen to and the reasons behind BTS gaining such widespread global fandom are many. Like any other Kpop band, BTS also had language barriers, their songs were predominantly in Korean with a very few english words here and there, until their very recent release of the single called Dynamite. Dynamite broke YouTube records and became the highest viewed (101.2 M) and commented YT video within 24 hours. Later, Dynamite also topped Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks. For an Asian band to achieve this, is no ordinary thing.

BTS’s music is powerful enough to heal a bruised soul. They’ve proved that music and emotions see no language. They have songs about mental health, loving yourself, fighting judgmental society, following dreams and their songs will inflict strength into the listeners to stay strong. They have over 200+ songs. From high energy hip hops like Mic drop, Fire, War of Hormones, Not Today, Boy in Luv, to ballads and pop like Butterfly, Spring Day, Magic shop, Bulletproof eternal; Emotional rocks like Fake Love, I Need you; Retro, funk and pop like Dynamite, Boy in Luv, DNA, Idol. You name the type of song, BTS serves it to you right. They make songs that the audience wants to listen to. Their soulful singing, meaningful lyrics and rap that burns like fire are all factors to their success. Their music videos have great visuals and well planned, intense choreographies. Their performance videos will blow your mind.

BTS fans are called ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth). It is a name that the boys themselves came up with. BTS are very protective and emotional about their fans just like how the fans are about them. They always include to appreciate and be thankful to ARMY in every possible instance. So, if you’re an ARMY it will basically feel like stanning a boy band who stans you back with all their heart.

BTS have won countless awards, broken records like nobody else in history. After The Legendary Beatles, they’re the only band to top Billboard three times in the same year. BTS has collaborated with popular artists like Lil Nas, Nicki Minaj, Halsey, Lauv, Steve Aoki, Becky G and many more.  BTS x UNICEF has done a very successful campaign called ‘Love Myself’ and they also addressed the same at the UN. Rm says, true love first begins with loving yourself. BTS’s last album, Map Of The Soul: 7 has been recorded as the highest selling album in the American history.

BTS an year after their debut went around the streets of LA to hand out flyers of their free concert inviting random people they met on the road. And 5 years later, they performed at the iconic Wembley Stadium, London and created history. The two day concert tickets were sold out in around 90 minutes. They’ve come a long way from where they started.

They started out sharing one dorm room and bunk beds for 7 boys. But now, they’ve earned the love of the world. The boys are amazing people at heart. They’re very humble, down to earth. Their dedication and story will inspire anybody who values hard work. There are so many backstage videos, live logs, interviews that show what the boys really are in person. There’s also a variety web series called Run BTS, 3 movies that’s been out about their stories so far, this allows ARMY to get a closer look on their personal lives. The boys are crackheads, they behave dumb and silly like you and me and everybody else. But when it comes to music, they are geniuses. They are kind, good people at heart. So when you sign up to start stanning BTS, you not only sign up to good music but also a bunch of comedy videos, because they’re that funny. Fans adore and envy the relationship the boys have in between one another. Added advantage: all the boys look so handsome, they’re a treat to the eyes.

To be able to achieve all this at such a young age and still appreciate all the little happiness in life is something that all of us need to appreciate. If not like them, let’s not spread hate. Wearing makeup, pink clothes, piercings, no facial hair doesn’t make them any less masculine and let’s stop criticizing them. They’re great people who produce amazing music for us and let’s not forget to use the most of BTS to love yourself and enjoy life.

This kind of acknowledgement from a tamil meme page is much appreciated. There are so many people out there spreading hatred on them without even knowing them. They literally are doing such good things out there. If you don’t like their music, I respect you, it’s your choice but that doesn’t mean you can go mock them for their looks. Have some sense, stop spreading hatred.
