During the protest in Kolkata on Thursday, 8 October a Sikh man was arrested. The West Bengal police removed his turban as hurting religious sentiments.
However, in a tweet on Friday, West Bengal Police responded with the video, saying that the person was carrying firearms and that the turban had fallen off during a scuffle with one of the officers. “It is never our intention to hurt the sentiments” added the police.
BJP National Secretary Arvind Menon tweeted that the police was manhandling a Sikh man by pulling off his turban. He also added “Today it seems that Mughal rule has been established again in Bengal,”.
