Parents on anxiety as 150 teachers test positive for Covid in Chittoor district

Earlier this academic year, the classes were taken through online platforms which received criticisms for unavailability of necessary technological needs in rural areas.
But, just three days after schools reopened, there is a lot of tension and uneasiness among parents in Chittoor district as 150 teachers in government schools followed by nine students tested Covid positive.
Narasimha Reddy, the District Educational officer confirmed that over 150 teachers from government schools had tested positive to the dreadful virus. He also said that despite this, the COVID-19 rules were being strictly followed in all the schools. “Testing for students and teachers in private schools started on Wednesday,” he said.
However, the teachers who had tested Covid positive were mostly from Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Madanapalle, Punganur, Chittoor, Palamaner, Ramasamudram mandals. He also stated that the incidence is equally prevailing in both urban and rural areas.
Teachers Are Worried!
The worst part is that even though the rules are stipulated, the ground reality is different. Though masks were supplied to students, there is no proper response from them as several students were attending schools without sanitizers and facemasks. Also, one of the teachers who tested Covid positive at Madanapalle stated, “it is too difficult to wear a mask and take classes continuously. Reopening Institutions at such crucial pandemic wouldn’t be a good choice to risk the lives and to be frank, the current academic year is going to be a namesake one as the previous year”
