When Bollywood decided to remake a Tamil film very badly twice

Chinna Mapillai – This small comedy film starring Prabhu , Sukanya , Visu, Radharavi and Sivaranjani released in 1993 and was a success. It was such a big success that it was remade in other languages. It was made in Telugu as Chinna Alludu starring Venkatesh and in Kannada as Coolie Raaja. But this was all a one time remake. The actual twist or actual mess up starts with the Hindi remake.  The 1995 Hindi remake starring Govinda and Karishma Kapoor was good for the time period it was released in and was a huge success. But in typical Bollywood style the makers of the original remake decided to remake the film again in 2020.

This Hindi remake of a Hindi remake which was borrowed from a Telugu remake of Tamil original is actually full of overacting in the trailer which dropped a couple of days ago.  Did you count the number of remakes in the above sentence? Mudila. The actual highlight of the Tamil original was the bonding between Prabhu and Visu and the songs by Illayaraja. Who can forget Kadhoram Lolaku… such a beautiful melody. When none of these can be replicated what was the need to remake it? At least they should have tried to be faithful to the 1995 Hindi film. Even that was not done. Why remake something when you can’t do it properly?

What a bloody mess!
