Just when we thought that cricket could be the breather amidst the Covid pandemic we have had shocking news coming in from the England – South Africa series which is currently being held in South Africa. There is news coming in that two members of England’s touring party have tested positive for Covid-19. This happened after two of the hotel staff tested positive for Covid after which the squads underwent voluntary testing for Corona. Though the South African squad tested negative it was not the same with the England Contingent. As a result the first ODI between South Africa and England was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The England contingent is now in self isolation. The reports that have come in are all unconfirmed results and have to be ratified by the medical experts. With this sudden outbreak the rest of the series might be called off. Both the boards have said that the health of the players and the staff are top priority. The series began on Friday but the match was postponed after a South African player tested positive. It was supposed to start again today but this sad news of two touring members being affected put an full stop to the series before it started.
