Movies and Events Get Postponed Due to Covid Crisis : From Valimai to RRR


The COVID-19 variant Omicron that is wreaking havoc globally has started to create an impact on major events and movies that tended to unfold this year. 

1.) The scare of new coronavirus variant omicron has increased in India. Most of the states have issued guidelines along with shutting of cinema halls. After looking at the current situation, several Bollywood filmmakers have postponed their films. After Jersey and RRR, there are reports Prabhas-starrer Radhe Shyam might also get postponed.

2.) The makers of the upcoming magnum opus ‘RRR’ have postponed the film’s release date due to the closing of theatres in many states across the country. Taking to Twitter, the makers issued their official statement for the postponement. Featuring a stellar cast including Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Jr NTR and Ram Charan, the SS Rajamouli directorial was slated to release on January 7, 2022.

3.) Out of all, the highly anticipated Grammy Awards are likely to get postponed amid the COVID-19 scare. The Recording Academy is likely to postpone the 64th annual Grammy Awards, originally set for 31 January at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, to a later date due to the Omicron variant, according to Billboard

4.) BCCI postpones Ranji Trophy, CK Nayudu Trophy, women’s T20 league due to rising Covid-19 cases

5.) So far, Ajith’s ‘Valimai’ is going to be the biggest release of 2022 Pongal. But the movie was postponed due to the Omicron threat and 50% occupancy of theatres.

6.) Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer ‘Jersey’ was all set to hit the screens this Friday but the makers have decided to hold the release. This decision has been taken owing to the rising Omicron scare in the country. While theatres in Delhi have shut down, cinemas in Maharashtra are also running only on 50 per cent occupancy.
